In case you’ve missed the news lately, strong-willed women seem to be getting criticized rather than praised (WTF?). Here at SHEVA, however, we’re celebrating our Queen Sheva of the week, Megyn Kelly, for being a headstrong gal who is using her talents in journalism to redefine feminism.

SHEVA-MegynKelly

Born in Syracuse, New York, Kelly began her career as an attorney after graduating from Albany Law School and working for a variety of law firms. After realizing that she was discontent with her job, she decided to pursue her true passion— journalism— and began working for ABC as a general assignment reporter.

Kelly eventually got her big break after applying to Fox News, where she had her own legal segment called Kelly’s Court, then hosted her own two-hour solo program, America Live, and now anchors the number two program in U.S cable news, The Kelly File. Her programs are characterized by sharp wit and in-depth analysis that are complemented by her litigation skills.  She says what she thinks in order to get to the truth — no BS in between. From presidential elections to environmental disasters, Kelly works hard to produce quick, quality news.

Now, all of the previous characteristics would seemingly be admired, especially in her line of work, but Kelly has recently been subject to some unnecessary slandering. This past week, whilst acting as moderator for the Republican debate, Republican candidate Donald Trump insinuated that her tough questions were due to her period (after being asked, ironically, about previous sexist remarks). Kelly, always maintaining her grace, (even after more criticism from Trump’s supporters) later commented, “I’m a big girl. I can take it”.

Kelly is not only our Queen Sheva of the Week for taking the high road in regards to these remarks, but also for refusing to conform to the stereotypical views of how women should speak or behave. Also, since when did it become OK to blame our personality, our way of expressing ourselves, on our period? Too sensitive? It’s your period. Too hardheaded? It’s your period.  (Although that chocolate craving might have been your period…) Kelly is redefining what it means to be a feminist simply by staying strong and genuine in the face of adversity, and for that we crown her our Queen of the week.
