Our QUEEN SHEVA this Wednesday is the brilliant British actress Keira Knightley.
Last week, Keira was part of a photoshoot for Interview magazine, where she made the daring decision of going entirely topless on the shoot. Her reasoning was far from wanting sex appeal attention – she already has a ton of that from her films, like all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Atonement, Anna Karenina, Love Actually and the list goes on. This is why she decided to go au naturale last week:
‘That
[shoot] was one of the ones where I said: “OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them [boobs] any bigger or retouch.” Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.’Keira, like many other actresses, has been frequently retouched in media photo shoots, primarily because she is criticized for being “too flat chested” or too naturally slim. People want more curves, and photographers give them just that. But Keira, like the QUEEN SHEVA she is, is done with the constant retouching and the message of altering the body on images it sends to girls and women around the world.
Our favorite quotes from Keira:
“I really believe that in this industry women have to be very true to themselves about what they’re comfortable with.”
“What I’ve always loved about acting is trying to see the world through other people’s point of view… it’s kind of forcing empathy on yourself.”
“I think a lot of people want to play heroic characters, and that’s it, but I don’t find that very compelling. It’s far more interesting to think about characters whose actions don’t always make sense. The fact is, the opposite is always alive in every decision. And if you look at your own life, and the way you’ve behaved and thought, it won’t always make sense either.”
And the good news about Keira’s photoshop manipulation refusal? Her topless/feminist stance has garnered more attention than hre regular photoshopped releases. Congratulations to our QUEEN SHEVA this Wednesday, Keira Knightley!
